I am happy to report that the Conference was a great success, again, this year. Titled “Take Control of Your Own Destiny”, attendees were able to learn many techniques of establishing and managing their risk finance dollars. Attendance was in excess of 170 people which is a new record. We were especially pleased with the attendees from out of state and the high number of captive owners. Twenty-seven states, one US Territory and three foreign countries were represented.
A Balloon Pop event was held by the International Center for Captive Insurance Education, “ICCIE”, which was very popular and fit with our theme.
We were grateful for the presence and active participation of the Director of Insurance, Christina Urias, and the Captive Administrator, Rod Morris.
Particularly pleasing was the presence of over 50 captive owners and risk managers. Their presence added immeasurably to the experience for all attendees. We hope that they will return and bring friends next year.
The keynote speaker this year was Andrew Barile, an industry veteran who advised the attendees on various aspects of the future of captives and shared ideas on making your captive successful.
The popular Captives 101 was another packed room. It received very high marks from all who attended. Many attendees were quite enthused about the Fronting and Reinsurance presentation and got quite a bit out of it.
The tax session by Chaz Lavelle received very high marks with many attendees asking for a longer session for next year. Chaz did his usual fine job even though he was asked at the last minute to fly solo.
A new session, the Captive Owners Round Table, was particularly well received. We will be working to improve this feature to the benefit of all attendees and members of the AzCIA.
Attendees were informed about the little known area of Triple X captives as Chris Reilly of Prudential opened our eyes to other uses of captives. This theme was expanded by Skip Myers and his panel which was well received.
Rick Denning led a panel of interesting claims authorities to provide us with thoughts on saving money in a captive through claims control. The Conference was wrapped up by our familiar crystal ball session.
The 2008 Conference will be held May 6-8 at The Arizona Biltmore. See you there!
